Fox News contained a short piece this morning about a Beliefnet poll focused on whether individuals are, in their opinion, Heaven or Hell bound. The poll asked a number of questions regarding the issue, most of which were asked in order to elicit responses along political and denominational lines. The poll was conducted this past June and reportedly, 10,000 Beliefnet members responded.
As far as Liberals themselves are concerned, I take issue with a number of their unbiblical political positions: Abortion, opposition to the State punishing evildoers (e.g., the death penalty), etc. Additionally, I find their “spin” on what constitutes a conservative problematic. Liberals often lump conservatives in the same camp as fascists, yet, surprisingly, they do not recognize the historicity of how certain of their former leaders “spun” this issue to avoid relational identification.
FDR and members of his administration were very adept at distancing themselves from their “soul brothers” in the liberal movement. Hitler was a liberal (National SOCIALIST Party), Stalin was a liberal (Communism-”communal”/Socialism), and FDR’s progeny distanced themselves from other liberals. Pol Pot was a liberal, Karl Marx was a liberal….I don’t know if any of these men made death bed conversions or not, so I cannot say they are in Hell. However, since liberalism is nearly synonymous with humanism – the elevation of man to godlike status, a philosophy introduced in the Garden of Eden by Satan himself – it would be safe to assume the liberals in the Beliefnet poll may be correct about their OWN view of their OWN destiny.
Regardless of any political identification with one’s future eternity, however, for those who truly believe and trust in the atoning work of Christ Jesus and His imputed righteousness, the Bible provides the believer with assurance of salvation predicated on Christ’s salvific work.
